Major Milestone Passed
Big day for my truck. I got it inspected. Now, when I drive it on the road to shake out the bugs, I'll be doing so legally. I feel like I just crossed the line between having a huge rebuild project to owning a truck that I will enjoy fussing with on weekends. A little problem on the way to the inspection station. My wife (following behind me just in case something went wrong on the way) told me that when I signalled for a left turn into the inspection station the right turn signal was the one flashing. Ooops... I swapped a couple of wires around under the dash and got it working right.

I should not have said "finished". But, I do feel that with an inspection sticker on the windshield, my truck has turned from a into a massive, time and money sucking, never-ending rebuild into something that I can enjoy driving and keep working on every other weekend or so. I still have sort-of big jobs ahead. I need to rebuild the stock steering box. My differential pinion seal still leaks a bit. I want to figure out some way to get a sound system in that doesn't distract too much from the "stock" appearance. And, I did the paint job myself without ever having done any auto painting before. The results are exactly what one would expect from someone with no experience: a lot of orange peel and overspray. I have come to regard 2000 grit paper and a dual action buffer as close friends. They can make a funky paint job look a lot less so. Anyway, I have heard that the sun is supposed to come out tomorrow. I'll take some photos. On Sunday, Oct 9, my son is getting married. I am expected to deliver the bride to the church in the truck. And take bride and groom from the church to the reception after they've tied the knot. There will be plenty of pictures..
