Found a fix to the charging issue on 1989 f250 5.0
I was dealing with a no-charge issue for over a year and I decided to rewire the alt wires completely.
The voltage would constantly read as though the alternator was turning on and off.
I will post pics of my job once I'm completely done.
It seems as though time ate away at the alternator ends of the cables.

Your truck your decision but, That could be the problem. Or could cause a problem. A problem you REALLY don't want....Everyone here will very strongly suggest/recommend you do the 3G swap. Thats just a fire waiting to happen or charging problems. Money is one thing, A charging alternator and a safe truck are another....Remember the truck fires from the CC brake switch that caused so many house and truck fires.....Spend the money and do it right. You'll be glad and you're truck will be glad. And you'll both be thankful. I'm sure someone here can guide you what you can do with the one you currently have installed. I almost had a truck fire while driving on the interstate from a faulty 2G alt. and didn't know it until I got home and my alt was glowing orange and the connector was trying to melt off....

I can take a guess with what I've ran into with my '87....But a proper 3G swap done will be the best thing you could do for that problem. Saving $100 isn't worth risk losing your truck to a preventable fire or your house because of the truck....I've seen people do things like that and it NEVER works out for them....

Thats not going to last long if at all.....Exposed crimp connections, electrical tape kingdom, Geez.....Check out the 3G now man....It may charge better than ever now because it can make contact or its a new alt. Thermal cycles, Vibration, moisture, Debris,Etc... Don't count on that lasting more than a couple weeks. Maybe a month depending.
You may get mad at what I'm about to say and thats fine but here it is, That kind of work is how fires get started or fatal accidents. And the same people it happens to always blame someone or something else besides themselves for their carelessness or being cheap in the wrong places.
Best case, It'll leave you stranded somewhere. Worst case, they'll start losing contact and begin arching creating heat......The swap/conversion isn't that much....But, Its your truck man. It burns, It burns. You may get lucky......I hope you do. I hope you have at least a 5lbs. ABC rated extinguisher on hand and ready to go.

Thanks for the concern. I understand where you are coming from. Ive taken care to make sure each wire is safe. If it burns, it's totally my fault. Thank you for the advice as well, I guarantee I will get the 3g swap in but I wanted to show a cheap, temporary way to get through a problem. I have winter coming and can't rely on "is this gonna turn on tomorrow " at least if it caches fire I'll be warm for a bit anyway
