Frame compatibility?

Buddy has a 1997 f250 regular cab long bed 7.3 with a rotted frame.

I have a 1985 f250 regular cab long bed with an awesome frame.

Will these frames swap? I expect to have to cut off and weld on crossmembers to go from different motor/tranny configurations but is that it?

Thanks.

all the body mounts are the same, so yes it will work as long as they are both 4 wheel, or both 2 wheel drive trucks.

Agreed only real difference is the front section ahead of the main crossmember. The 92-97 is boxed in a little differently and the front bumper mounts are different. I don't think it would be overly difficult to modify the factory 97 mounts or build something to make the newer bumper fit the older chassis. That is if we are talking older and newer 4x4s, although a 4x2 chassis I'm sure would swap over without too much drama.

The 92+ frames are 1/4" thick
The 80-91 frames are only 3/16"

I had no idea, thanks for mentioning that Brad. Weird I never noticed, I have an 84 and a 97 F250. Didn't give it much thought I guess.
