Broken defrost door

My project for now....the infamous broken defrost/heater door. I got it pulled out today and the only fix I have found is using a piano hinge of some type. Does anyone happen to have any pictures of the fix?

Sorry, no pictures available, but I cut the piano hinge to length, using a hacksaw, and riveted it in place. The piano hinge was brass, to help control rusting. It has been working for several years.

Have you seen this? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-problems.html

Did you use pop rivets for any specific reason?

Just seemed easier for me as I was doing the work from under the dash [unit still in the truck].

Sounds like a good reason. Just thinking of the awkward positioning to do that makes my body ache, glad this one is out.

Finished....not pretty but should work.

I was able to get this done, turned out not as difficult as I had thought it may be but I did it a little differently than what others have done. I used all the old parts that way I didn't have to drill more holes in to the box to mount the piano hinge. Just wanted to post pictures since I could not find any on here from other repairs. Hope this will help out some one else down the line.

Items to use to try and fix the broken door.

Decided to try and use the existing parts and just use 1 1/2 hinges with 8/32 screws and nuts

Bolted together.

Back side picture.

Door installed to check for fit.

The gap made because of the screws, this is where the foam comes in the make sure the door seals all the way around.

Finished. It is not the prettiest thing and I did think about trimming around the opening to make it look better but....who is going to see it.
