Key Pad Entry?

So why can't we set the alarm on our trucks when locking from the keypad?

I use the keypad all the time to get my truck but I really dislike not being able to set the alarm when I lock it from the pad.

If you have the Premier Plus Alarm from Ford, when you lock the with the lock button or keypad, it does activate the alarm. It also activates the PATS security setup when you remove your key.

The owner's manual states for PATS...

Automatic Arming
The system arms immediately after you
switch the ignition off.

Automatic Disarming
Switching the ignition on with a coded key
disarms the system.

Premier Perimeter Alarm

Arming the Alarm
The alarm is ready to arm when there is
not a key in the ignition. Electronically lock
the vehicle to arm the alarm.
The direction indicators flash once after
you lock the vehicle. This indicates the
alarm is in the pre-armed mode. It will fully
arm in 20 seconds.
Disarming the Alarm
Disarm the alarm by any of the following
actions:
• Press the power door unlock button
within the 20-second pre-armed mode.
• Unlock the doors with the remote
control or keyless entry keypad.
• Switch the ignition on or start the
vehicle.
• Use a key in the driver door to unlock
the vehicle, then switch the ignition on
within 12 seconds.
Note: Pressing the panic button on the
remote control will stop the horn and signal
indicators, but will not disarm the system.

See Security section of your owners manual.

Thanks Larry,
I'll have to pull the manual out and go back through it.

I have the ultimate package on mine so I'm guessing I have the "Premier Perimeter Alarm".

I was thinking the alarm wasn't activating because when locking the truck from the door keypad it don't hear the horn chirp.

No, odds are you do not have the Premier Perimeter Alarm as it is an add on. If you have remote start from the factory, you can add it for approximately $150 or less by buying on eBay or some of the dealers that sell at "cost" online.

The part number is DL3Z-19A361-A. It is plug and play. Takes about 30 minutes max to install and set the alarm sensitivity.

I'm pretty confident that anytime the truck is locked, regardless of the method - key fob or key pad, that the alarm is set. You only get the horn honk if you hit the key fob twice, and is just a verification that the doors are locked. You will get a double honk if one of the doors isn't closed tight. The honk isn't the activation of the alarm. What I cannot speak on is if the door is locked with a physical key what happens as I honestly have never put the key in the door lock, ever. I do use the keypad often when I am going places/events that I do not want to take my keys along(running/boating, etc).

As a test, roll down your drivers side window, then lock the truck with the keypad. Then reach in, and unlock the inside door lock tab with your fingers. Take a look at the productivity screen.....it should say counting down to alarm, etc.

After locking, give it at least 20-30 seconds to arm though.

Here's a vid where I unlock with the key... without disarming.... open the door and it starts the countdown.....
