Installing radio, anyone know what this might be?
Hey everyone, I'm finally getting I'm finally getting around to installing a double DIN head unit and have took out the factory radio. I've had a toggle switch on my Dash that I don't know what goes to the previous owner installed it and it didn't do anything either way you toggle it. I followed It Down I followed it down underneath the steering column where there is three black fuse boxes with no fuses in them and they tap into a couple different wiring systems I don't know if it maybe was a previous alarm or something to do with an aftermarket stereo system as this excursion used to have headrest monitors but now has the stock radio only.

Can't say for sure but it looks like there was a lot of stuff wired up under there. I see an FM transmitter, some speaker wire and some rca cables. There's a good chance that was going to an amp or other device. I would remove everything just to eliminate potential issues. Obviously that's only if you won't need it for the new install.

The piece on the right hand side that says "Audiovox" is an FM modulator. Since your Ex had a video system, this FM modulator is the input to your radio for the sound. It ties into the factory radio's antenna. The toggle switch turns it on and off. The round black RCA device is a noise suppressor, the install of the video system most likely had engine whine.
I can't tell what the fuse holders are for......

Yes, I had the exact same setup on my excursion .
It turns on the audiovox sound system for dvd system
You probably have a audiovox dvd player under one of your back seats or somewhere that is tied to that audio vox fm modulator.
The switch on dash turns the fm modulator on. You can scan fm to find its frequency.

I finally got the new head unit in along with 4 out of 6 new 4 way speakers and some headrest monitors and backup camera.. Now I have crackling coming from all the speakers. The head unit is a double din pioneer and I used the ford speakers adapter wire harnesses for the new speakers.. Is the crackling happening from the new head unit or the fact that I only put 4 out of 6 new speakers in?

The 3 fuses attached to wires in the steering column look like they're for an alarm. The alarm "brain" might be hidden up in the dash somewhere.
If you located the "brain" you could see who manufactured it and might be able get a FOB, program the FOB and get a working alarm out of the deal.
