Eaton or Ford/Thompson pump?
I'm about halfway through doing the power steering install on my 65 F100. I have an Eaton pump with the remote fender mounted reservoir from the 64 Tbird I'm slowly disassembling, and one of the later round Ford pumps that came from the salvage yard to use as a core exchange for a rebuilt. It looked to be the remains of a 72-73'ish F100 that the round Ford pump came from. Is there any advantage or disadvantage with either pump? Pressure, reliability, pressure & return hoses, etc.
If it makes a difference the power steering gearbox I'm using was marked 1974 in grease pencil by the guy I bought it from.

The reservoir bolts to the top of the pump, but on some cars when A/C was present, the reservoir was remotely mounted on the left fender apron.
The Eaton is the wrong P/S pump to use with Ford/Saginaw P/S.
The correct pump is the Ford/Thompson with the "pencil neck" filler tube used on many 1967/77 FoMoCo vehicles.

However, for best performance from an engineering perspective, the C-II pump with the plastic reservoir is a worthwhile upgrade if you can accept the modern look (I painted my housing the blue/green color Ford used in the 60s to take the edge off the appearance). The bolt pattern is identical and so are the shaft diameter and length, so the pulley lines up perfectly. To install it in a Thompson bracket some clearancing is required (at least on the aluminum brackets, not 100% on the steel bracket). You will need to use a pressure hose from a '78/79.

Ended up getting half of what I wanted, the large filler tube on the first generation Ford Thompson pump with the offset pressure outlet.
Found out yesterday why the straight oil filter adapter has to be changed to the passenger car 90 degree style. I used a PS pump bracket from a 66 Custom 500, laying underneath the truck I saw that the oil pressure sending unit connector is barely touching the PS pump bracket but still enough to cause problems, and it's the small size sending unit.
On a side note, freezing the pump and heating the pulley just before putting the two together one my second try made the pulley install super easy with a pulley install tool kit. The first time I tried to install the pulley I made the mistake of trying to use the installer bolt, nut & washer that came with the rebuilt pump. About halfway on the bolt just snapped in two. Luckily the part left in the pump shaft came right out.
