Loose belt, 302

It seems like every few weeks I have to tighten the belt on my F100. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to get it to hold tension?

I use Gates green stripe or Goodyear, not the cheap ones in the big box auto parts stores.

Is the belt stretching, the fasteners loosening, or bracketry slipping?

Serrated bolts and lock washers sometimes work wonders.. in addition to quality belts as stated above.

Are you getting a 1/2" of deflection on the belt when tightening? Meaning with a straightedge across the pulleys, can you only press down a 1/2" and no more. You don't want to go tighter than a 1/2".

What has been said and what condition are your pulleys? How is your belt alignment? Use a good belt.

The bolts that hold things together are slipping. With quality belts as you stated, the belts are not the problem.
Pluck bolts, put in lockwashers, tighten to the proper deflection.

Thanks for the help guys. The deflection is good I think the old bolts are just slipping.

Also make sure your buying the correct width of belts when replacing them.

Buy good name brand belts & hoses will last for many yrs, not just a few yrs.
