2017 Expedition 22" v. 20" Wheels...?

Ive heard there's a noticeable difference in the ride quality for the 22" wheels such as configured with the Platinum v. the 20" wheels. I'm scheduled to test drive a Platinum & Limited tomorrow evening however in the meantime I thought I'd ask the forum for your feedback. Is it really noticeable in a bad way?? Thanks..!

The 22" wheel option in 2016 got you the continuous controlled Damping suspension, which I have. I was headed down the path of a Denali until I gave the Expedition one more look. The one I drove had the 22's and the ride was fantastic. Much smoother than the Denali. I leave it in the NORMAL suspension setting most of the time. I would say it rides as smooth as the 20" version and if you set it to COMFORT it's even cushier. Tires make up a huge amount of what most of us feel as "harshness". I am betting if I swapped out the Pirelli Verde all seasons with a nice Michelin it would be even better. Plus the polished 22's against the Blue Jeans Metallic is a great look. Good luck with your decision!!

i owuld say no becuase I have seen some platinum without 22's.

I haven't built one online in a while...so i am talking 2016 MY.

The 22's gets you automatically the CCD. Platinum does not. (again for 2016 MY)

Somethingclever is correct - Choose the 22" wheels and it drags in the CCD. However you can't have CCD and load-leveling rear suspension at the same time.

the 22in wheels is an option only on the platinum and king ranch models and the ccd suspension is bundled with it. unfortunatley, you cannot get the lls with the 22s or the ccd with the smaller wheels. ive never ridden in a truck with the ccd but i hear its rele smooth, critically though its more of a mixed bag when it comes to ride quality. if ford packaged the ccd with the 20s, i think the expy ride quality would be near best in the business, hopefully they do that with the new truck next yr.

According to two dealers I've spoken with the LLS & CCD are standard on the Expy. Platinum... LLS is integrated into the rear shocks, no more air bags & compressor. So what gives here? Are both dealers wrong? Maybe I need to call Ford CS or another dealer...I'm confused now.

No - at least in the configurator. LLS not listed as an option on the Platinum, but it is on the Limited. Until you select the 22" rims then it tells you it can't keep the LLS. Hope that helps!

Yes, it does. Thanks for the clarification. I suppose when towing the CCD suspension automatically adjusts to help keep the vehicle level?

I don't think the CCD does any type of leveling. I pull a 30' camper with about 700 lbs of tongue weight. It drops the backend about an inch with an Equalizer WD hitch setup. The 3.5 turbo gets that trailer up and moving very nicely. I can do 65-70 mph all day - no sway at all. Good luck!

We just bought a new navigator and I will tell you this. We traded a 15 Tahoe with factory 22 and it looked sick but horrible horrible ride. Test drive for a few hours each the navi with 20's and then 22's. went with the 20's hands down rode 10 times better and still looked good
