Tune up parts

I have a 54 239 and it needs a tune up. I saw somewhere a module that replaces the points and condenser but cannot seem to find it. Can some body point me in the right direction and what do you think about using one? Thanks,
Tim

You are probably thinking of the Pertronix ignition systems. http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ig/ignitor/default.aspx

I personally have no experience with them though. For me fiddling with the points is part of the nostalgia these trucks have.

6 volt or upgraded to 12? Some folks say they have not had good luck with 6 volt versions.

Make sure you know which distributor you have. If it's a Original Distributor it takes a different unit than a 57 & newer. Installed a Ignitor & Flame Thrower III on my 292 and never looked back, but I ordered the wrong Ignitor and had to get the 57 & later version.

Yes, the Pertronix is the way to go. It eliminates the points and condenser (no more setting gap or dwell). Amazon had the best price when I bought mine:
Pertronix 1283 Ignitor

As BJ suggested I would order their matching Flamethrower coil. You have to match the coil to the ignitor. I just went with the standard ignitor so I went with the standard flamethrower coil. They made a huge improvement. I can't find which coil I ordered, so I would suggest that you call Pertronix (http://pertronix.com/prod/ig/flame/coils/default.aspx) to make sure that you get the right one to go with the 1283.
