oem halogen to led headlight swap

The leds headlight assembly used to be a little over $600 a piece on the ford parts site. Now they are over $900. I noticed that now they come with the ballast, (they may have before but i never noticed.) The plug and play wiring harness offered by raptor retrofit that is needed to covert them comes with the ballast. What I am wondering is, if that ballast was all that was needed and is the reasoning to buy the aftermarket harness. If it is, then does that mean that if the oems come with a ballast now, then they would just plug right up to the factory harness without having to buy the RR one.
Like i said i dont know if they came like this all along or not because i just now noticed it, but they did go up on the price quite a bit and maybe this is why.

You might have to talk to a dealer on this one. But from what I can tell, it looks like the LED headlights use a proprietary plug and the RaptorRetrofit harness converts them from the standard halogen plugs to the proprietary plug. E.G. there's no such harness available with a Ford part number. So I would think you still would have to buy the harness.

I just did a little research and it looks like there is more to it than what i thought, so it looks like the harness is needed. I actually plan on getting the new super duty and now i need to find out if the f150 conversion harness will work on them. Even though, the light assemblies are different, im hoping that they are wired the same. If not, it will probably be a while before they design new ones and are available.
