Got our first trip with the ATV's to Tennessee at the end of October. All went well and our little girl loved her first camping trip.

Truck performed well with the new rebuilt trans. I had the installer plumb the new 40,000 GVW, tru-cool trans cooler. Operates around 170 going around 70. Got up to 190-195ish up Jellico mountain on interstate 75. Outside temp was in the low 70's. I'm am a little concerned how it will preform when the outside temp is in the 90's.

I had been waiting to post until I had the weight of the trailer. Took it by a truck stop and had the truck and trailer weighed then the truck only. The trailer has some odd and end stuff in it but no ATV's,coolers, firewood, fuel, cloths etc. Truck had two full tanks and I had myself, wife and daughter. I did have two, full, 5 gallon takes of fuel in the back of the truck bed. The truck and trailer weighted 13680 and the truck was 6800.

So, the trailer weighed 6880. The ATV's weigh 600 a piece, which puts me over 8,000. I figure I can have 750 to 1,000 lbs of cloths, coolers, fuel, beer, tools etc. that I just have to have.

Overall, I'm happy with my setup. Spent a lot of money getting it road ready but know next summer will be great. I'm hoping to get a ride in this winter when the forecast may be unusually warm.

did this truck never got a flexplate? my truck has a similar sound to the video. really loud at idle but seems to let up under load and can't hear it at all at road speed. my truck is high miles but holds gears and locks up well . i bought this truck not running from a wiring fire it get amazing fuel economy empty but I'm a little nervous pulling my trailer with the noise. close to 370,000 miles , body very nice but interior is toast and I'm slowly switching it to red.

Yes, but it was because some teeth were broken off, but not the plate. The trans guy thought it was the torque converter making noise. It would stop making noise at 20 mph when I assume it locked up and started when dropped below. Either way after the rebuild I didn't have it anymore.

wow, on the video it looked like that flywheel had 1/2" or more deflection. I was thinking it woudl definitely be the broken flexplate. I'll pull the inspection cover off mine and see what up. I was going to pull the trans and replace the flexplate but if I need to rebuild the trans and replace the TC I'l just run it until it breaks and then put a 4r100 into it that already has the upgrades. guess I won't be pulling much this year with it. I have spare trans and they all have less miles than this one does

If anyone wonders whether or not their flexplate is cracked, then it's probably something else lol. When a flexplate cracks, the sound is comparable to the bottom end of an engine coming apart. It's horrendous at idle and under load it may go away completely.

This happened to my F450 w/ IDI.

When this happens, you know something is way wrong. If it doesn't sound like severe engine knock,it's likely something else.

I had the inspection plate off when I found out I had starter issues and saw then that the plate had a wobble. I remembered the wobble being worse then, but a lot of sleepless nights have occurred since then from our little girl. Anyway, the noise has seemed to get louder so I started researching the issue. Other you tube videos have a similar sound. I don't have a scanner, but the noise goes away at 30 mph, from what I believe is the TC locking out. If I let the fuel peddle off and let it coast, it comes back at 20 mph. If I hit the brake peddle, unlocking the TC, the noise comes back. I've read a broken flex plate is common but I've never seen a current thread in the issue. Is this common? Any ideas? I'm taking to a trans shop in the morning to get an opinion. 1997 7.3 CC 2wd LB

In the op's video here,he's not inspecting correctly. He has his flashlight on the converter and the truck doesn't need to be running either (however that's how I located the noise with engine running). With the engine off, remove the inspection cover has he did, however don't shine your flashlight on the converter, shine it in between the engine/oil pan and the flexplate. There you can clearly see a cracked flexplate if it's cracked as seen here:

I see what you're saying. However, the purpose was to look at the outer edge of the plate to determine alignment, I wasn't looking at the converter. I couldn't feel any cracks in mine but had read that they could be hairline and not known until removal. In the end I never really knew what the noise was from but could only confirm that the plate wasn't broke when it was removed.

Did you figure out why you have such a wobble?

Not sure. After the rebuild, the noise went away but I also never looked at the plate while the engine was running to see if the plate runs perfectly true.
