Clogged Cats?

2002 explorer 4.0 Non supercharged. no power unless you disconnect the dpfe sensor. Suspect clogged cats. Am I barking up the wrong tree? How do I verify its the cats?
Thanks

Welcome to FTE!

Pull the OBD II codes. Clogged cats are not unheard of but not that common.

These engines have intake o-ring vacuum leaks, cracked intake vacuum leaks, fuel pump issues, timing chain issues, and other items that can cause a loss of power.

If you want to rule out any restriction in the exhaust a mechanics vacuum gauge will tell the tale.

Yeah, a clogged exhaust will show up on a vacuum gauge in a couple seconds

I would say faulty DPFE sensors have been more common on Fords than plugged catalytic converters....

Just curious. If the cat is plugged, wouldn't there be excessive EGR flow and a related code? I suppose it would have to be plugged enough...
