Towing w/2000 6.8/4R100

I, too, appreciate the conservative advice. There are far too many people I see out there doing idiotic things behind the wheel every day. I know the chassis and brakes will handle what I will be doing, I was really more concerned with the transmission and its performance - being a 4R100 and all. I see that mine has both a cooler in the radiator and another in front of the condenser which makes me feel better. My heavy truck mechanic with perform a complete service before I come back to make the haul; it needs an alignment and new e-brake cables, he'll check it all over for anything else. I also will be babying the truck and trailer; no speeds higher than 65, avoiding interstates when practical, detouring around major cities and congestion, etc. I just want the combo to get there, I'm in no hurry.

Speeds are higher than I like to trailer at. I don't like to exceed 65-70 when towing, and that is 10 MPH under the interstate slow-lane traffic out here. I really don't like being the driver that is holding up the flow for everyone else. I prefer the 65 - 70 limit state roads that see less traffic. At least in the west. Of course I was driving an IDIT with 4.10s, so 70 was nearing (practical) top end even unloaded.

I find it very hard to believe that trucks with trailers have a 75mph low limit on an interstate. Think of how many trailers are going around the country every summer. And now let's look at the number of tickets issued for a truck/trailer going 60-65 in a 75 on the interstate.
According to this thread, cops would have a field day.

In states like Utah the speed limits are 80 (or 85 in Texas) on some of the freeways.
Most people are cruising around 85.
I, also, don't like going over 65-70 and it does feel uncomfortable.

In the slow lane on an interstate, or a highway? There is no "lower" upper limit for trucks on an interstate? like 85/ trucks/trailers???
I can't believe 65 in the right lane on an interstate causes accidents with those cruising at 85 or whatever in other lanes or to pass... I can see 35/45 being an issue.

I've noticed a decline in good/decent driving over the last ten years in central Florida.
Florida state max is 70 (so the fast cars are all going 75-78) and even a differential of 10mph is a bad thing. Not crashes, but definitely causes traffic jams.
If I was in a state with 85mph limit I too would avoid towing on those highways.

Ok, we see things a bit different. I dislike going thru various towns and other "blockages", and keep it to 65-68. I have always been on my way somewhere, I never have the time to stop and see stuff on the way. It's usually back to SDAK to see our folks, or to Banning because it's close and we like the KOA. Our RV drive time is mostly to get to "west and wewaxation at wast!"

Well, finally got the move done, and the F350 was great! No issues, hauled the load with no problem. We changed all the fluids before the trip, a front wheel bearing, and gave it a thorough going over. A little pokey off the line, but great other than that. I haven't tallied up the fuel usage yet, but it was no worse than what our RV got, so I'm happy. Never saw a trans temp above 195, nor a coolant temp above 206 (A/C on). No doubt deeper gears would be great if this was a regular occurrence, but now that it is down here it won't get used to pull that much weight again, or at least very seldom. I was impressed with how the chassis handled the load with no suspension modifications, not much pin bob even on bad roads. Feels like a rocket without a load on it after the last 2500 miles of heavy trailering.

Well here in California, as you probably know, the low limit is 55 as well as the high limit. I actually got a ticket for doing 65 pulling my Gooseneck. Pretty ridiculous because I was just trying to be safe on the 5 and not get plowed over or into. Doing 55 on any CA roadway will damn near get you killed. Brilliant legislation I tell you.
