front crankshaft seal replacement

hi,
I have a 1985 f250 rc lb 4x4 with the 300 I love !
anyways I have read that the timing cover crank seal is replaced from the front or outside of the engine...
or is driven in from the back of the cover ?
did it change or do I have bad info ?
I know there were some changes around mid year in 85 .
also what size seal do I need there are two listed ?
and finally what about a harmonic balancer installer ?
never heard of one before .

It's installed from the rear. Pan has to come off, dammit. Go up to the tips and tricks #42 and read my post about installing the seal.
