Considering Toyo MT 255/85-16

Has anyone tried these and have any pics? I had them on my Tacoma and loved them although they were a bit too HD for that rig, more suited to super duty but not sure the looks will be right. Was going to go with 35x12 type tyres but the utility and price of the 255 is tempting.

Anyone have any pics?

Yep. The toyo seems to run the biggest of them at least back then when I bought them. Great tire, just wondering if it will look dumb. Dually won't tell me much though because that size really makes sense for those guys.

I liked mine for the first two years or so, then the bfg started to sidewall crack and developed a shimmy and I couldn't stand them. And a side note traction was AMAZING when they were new but once the tread started to go my off road traction SUCKED it was like just because I lost tread height the tire just wouldn't move the truck in the mud...

Bfg was known to have problems with their initial offerings on these. I'd probably stick to the toyo because they are bigger, ad also heavier constructed by a good margin. But, your point may still be valid I don't know. Moving trucks in mud will always be hard, and any new tire will certainly perform much better here.

I ended up sticking with the stock size tires but I was looking hard at the 255/85/16 and had narrowed it down to the Toyo MT or the Toyo M55. But I had found out that my brother in law put the MTs on his dually and it ate them up quick, like 30k miles, they are a little too soft of tread compound in my opinion unless you are going to use them for their mud traction. The M55 is like a regular AT tire and have excellent reviews from all kinds of work trucks. Especially oil field workers driving on gravel roads. They are a little hard to find depending on where you live and are a little more expensive but will last way longer than the MT.

Hmmm. Yeah the m55 is way more expensive. Okay well if we want a cheaper option the cepek extreme country is 183$ delivered and that puts them considerably less than toyo mt. As long as they nearly as long they might be a good option. Then again, 295/75-16 toyo AT is about 200$ ea and would likely out last all the mud options.

And I just remembered the Cooper ST Maxx in a 255/85/16 Cooper Tire & Rubber Company - Discoverer S/T MAXX?

I have had a set of the TOYO Open Country tires on now for over 60,000 miles. They still have 1/2" of tread left.
PROS: Look good cleaned up.
Last a long time.
Traction Monsters.
CONS: They are a super hard compound.
They make lots of road noise even at low speeds.
You have to get used to them because they handle like on rails.
They hold LARGE gravel well until high speeds then release them.
Pain to clean.

I am also running the E load. I'll probably need a set next year...
