2013 Sync stopped reading text messages

Sync update
All my problems (at least some of them, LOL) are solved with the new SYNC update. My I Phone 6 allows my text messages to be read out loud in the truck. Also, when I connect Pandora or other blue tooth music, the artist & song title appear. It did jus t read blue tooth connected in the past.

I followed this:
The instructions on the website DOES NOT work. But this will.
I got the Sync update to finally work. I downloaded the file three times...only one of them included the -HC.cab file. You have to have this file for the update to work.
After formatting the USB drive to a FAT32 drive...I copied the unzipped files to the drive.
This is how I got the update to work.
Turn on radio, insert into the USB port in the vehicle
Hit the Aux button
Hit the Menu button
On Sync Media, hit the OK button
NOW....scroll thru the menu with the FF button until you come to System Settings.....Hit OK
Scroll again with FF button to Advanced....Hit OK
Scroll again with FF button to Install Application....Hit OK
This will begin the update install. This will take probably 15 minutes. DO NOT pull out the USB drive UNTIL it says "Installation Complete" on the display screen....even though it says by sync voice that the install is complete. WAIT until it shows it on the screen.
Once displayed on the screen....press MENU to exit update mode.
You will have to re-pair your phone once the update is complete.
Your done....!!!!

So after several tries, I got the latest SYNC update to work. Had trouble with getting files unzipped, no biggie. Low and behold all kinds of stuff starts working and the missing notifications tab appears on my phone. How convenient it is to have the phone automatically pair to the truck every time I get in. Owned this truck almost 4 years and the stupid thing never work right..

Hi wojowojo16,
The latest version is 3.8, and it can be installed at the dealer. Please make sure SHOW NOTIFICATIONS is activated on your iPhone: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-...ur-iphone.html
Let me know if this helps.

I had given up with getting text notifications from my Android. It worked when the truck was new then bam! Nothing. Everything else in Sync seemed ok, it just quit doing anything associated with texts: no notification, no reading them, nothing.
I searched and searched and finally ended up at my local dealership knowing full well they know nothing about Sync but he recommended doing a software update. I dreaded it b/c nothing good EVER comes from updating the Sync system but I was desperate so I did it.
Now the text functions work again. Phone features in Sync seem unchanged, thank God. But now I've lost something else. I did the usb2 addition 2 or 3 yrs ago and it's always worked fine. Now immediately following the software update Sync won't play from usb2. Doesn't recognize that there's even a thumb drive plugged into it. The same thumb drive plays fine from the dash usb port.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get usb2 working again? Sooner or later I'm going to destroy the dash usb port by repeatedly smashing the thumb drive with my coffee mug.
================================================== ==
ETA: I don't know how or why but suddenly yesterday evening usb2 started working. I was like WTF, it hasn't worked in 2 weeks! But we'll see how long it lasts this time or, more likely, what other feature Sync has decided to delete to allow usb2 to work. I'm sure you can tell that like many folks I am NOT a fan of Sync.
So next question- long ago I signed up for and used Ford's Sync Owner-to-Owner forum. But it appears that Ford has decided to discontinue that service. Yes? Any other options besides the useless Live Chat for getting Sync-specific help?
