50 F1 Frame vs 52 F1 Frame
I have a 50 F1 with/226 6cyl that I'm restoring to original and I have a 52 F1 with 215 6cyl that I'm just rebuilding as needed. I was doing some comparisons the other night and noticed a difference in the front mount location between the 2. The difference I'm seeing is in the front diagonal cross members that the front engine mounts sit on. I thought the frames for 48-52 were all the same but now I'm seeing different. Hard for me to get a picture but I want to make sure that neither truck has been modified. I have no reason to think so since those diagonals are riveted on however when I look in the manuals I don't see a difference. Basically the 50 comes off the side frame rails higher and then drops to the front after the engine mount locations, the 52 pretty much angles down to the front right from the side rails AND the 215 mounts at the end of the diagonal instead of the large hole where the 226 mounts. I'm not doing this but if was going to put the 226 in the 52 it would require some type of "riser" on that cross member otherwise it would not mount level. Can anyone shed some light on this or do we need pictures?
