F250 7.3 deisel hit by lightening!
Looking for some help. My truck was struck by lightening and will crank but will not start there is no wait to start light . Fuses are okay. my diagnostic meter will not read codes. It says no connection. I changed the pcm. No effect.i checked the heating element in the filter . it is okay.I have tried to find burnt wires nothing found. replaced solenoid for glow plugs. solenoid does not activate when you turn on key!I am getting the constant 12 volt but no ground to activate.1997 F250 7.3 diesel.

No it doesn,t click. All so i do not have a repair Manuel and i do not know if I have fuel pressure. I cranked it with the filter out and the bowl filled up slowly.I also do not see a check engine light when i turn the key. I know i am bouncing around. I just want to give you as much Info as I can. Battery's are both good! And thanks for your help.

Without a good scanner, you are just guessing. There can be many wiring problems from lightning. The high voltage can jump from one wire to the next and actually blow wires into multiple short lengths. I would unbolt all grounds to check for clean metal. It is possible that much of the electrical system on the truck could need replacing. It might be smart to look for a wrecked truck same year, to salvage the wiring harnesses and electronic parts.

I use this
https://www.amazon.com/Vgate-Bluetoo...rds=vgate+OBD2
Torque Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...g.prowl.torque
Use the communication in the profile
SAE J1850-PWM
make sure you add in Ford PIDs
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ch.CarGaugePro
people like it cause it will pull codes but i have no bought it yet
Some OLD PCM's have to be flashed before you can pull codes

Okay After replacing the pcm,idm , and multiple engine multiple sensors, transmission solenoid. I have one problem left . the od light is flashing and erratic shifting. i have a scan code of( 214 accelerator positioning sensor intermittent)I also changed the speed censer in the rear! i just change the accelerator positioning sensor same code. i am going to check the the three wires back from the sensor. If the voltage, ground and signal wire check out.Where do i go from there? thanks, Frank

This makes me think that there are damaged conductors between the sensor and PCM. Lightning is very powerful and it's easy for it to char wire insulation which can cause either a partially broken conductor (crystallized copper), or a high resistance connection between two adjacent conductors.
A wire harness from a junkyard truck of the same model year would likely solve this problem. It is possible that the main connector for the PCM was damaged. The individual pin connectors sit in an insulating plastic block which may have been charred by the lightning.
Since you changed the PCM and the accelerator sensor and still have the code, it has to be in the wire harness or connectors. The digital meter you are using to test with does not produce the same voltage as the PCM--digital meter less than a volt often, PCM 5 volts. So even if your meter shows no problem, I think you still have a wiring problem. The truck is telling you that, but you are not listening to the ultimate test instrument for this vehicle-your PCM.
