The thing I will always remember was how clueless I was as to what was going on that day! I was living in a travel trailer in a campground at the time, and I had no TV. I was working swing-shift hours, so I always slept late. In the late morning (Pacific time zone), I decided to turn on the radio. It was a news report, but by that time of the day, the reporters all assumed that the listeners already knew what had happened, so they were not really reporting the events, they were interviewing experts and witnesses. I was going, "What towers? They keep talking about the second tower has now collapsed. What are they talking about?" I ended up calling my parents in California and I asked them what was going on. They filled me in. I was working at the SeaTac airport at that time. It was weird going to work at an absolutely quiet major airport with no planes landing or taking off.

I was at work that morning. So being that I live in the Pittsburgh area I lived it and heard it all as it was happening. The thing is though when I first heard the reports it was on the radio. And the station that was on was a local top 40 station that had a morning show that was well know for making up stupid stories as a way to prank their listeners. So when I first heard about the first plane hitting the first tower I thought it was a prank. Until a few moments later when I walked into the break room to get a drink. There were about 15-20 mechanics in there watching Fox News. Then it hit. This was no joke. And the plane that crashed in Somerset county Pa. flew right by where my wife of just (4 months at that time) in Pittsburgh right about the time it had turned around. And to top all of that off, one my coworkers realized while looking at the flight pattern that, that plane had traveled flew right over his farm shortly before it crashed. Also my father in law worked for a hospital in the Johnstown area at that time. He was initially told about a commercial plane that had crashed in Somerset and to plane on staying the night to treat any and all victims of the crash. My wife called me about lunch time to tell me about her dad. However as we all soon found out there were no survivors and he was able to go home at the end of his shift. I for one hope that I never see another day like that again.
