4x4 kicking in whenever
Hey guys
So finally worked a bunch of bugs out of the 95 bronco 4x4 351W E4OD but now something else came up.
The truck while going down the road will kick the 4x4 in by itself for a few minutes then kick out. It feels like it is kicking into 4 low.
It is a push button 4x4 and auto hubs I had to stop driving it before it screws something up more.
When you try and put the truck in 4x4 yourself it will go in 4 high but not 4 low never has since I got it. That was one of the bugs I need to work out.
What do you think is causing this issue? Never dealt with push button 4x4.

Before anything else I would get to the transfer case electric mode selector motor and clean the plug (it's part of the transfer case, so get down there). Then I would look at the dash switch. You definitely can't get into 4wd low while moving since that requires the transmission to be in Neutral (N). What else have you noted when it happens?. I would also advice replacing those auto-hubs with manual locks, this is my take on that: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11243835

The MLPS on the trans closes a circuit when in Neutral, that is read by the 4WD control module by passenger's feet. Also, the module looks at the AC signal developed by a coil in the hmmm, don't remember 100%, was it in the transfer case?
There is a 4WD Control Module self-test that can be run by pressing in a button hidden on the side of it. IIRC, requires certain conditions to set up the test first. I did this a year ago, I'm drawing a blank now. It's been a long year!
EDIT - Hi Encho! You posted while I was pecking out keys

What it is doing is as you are driving you will hear some clicking in the front end and start getting some vibration then it will act like it bogged down like it does in 4low. It feels like it is all 4 wheels locked in. After a few seconds it stops and makes a loud bang noise and goes to normal.
I am very much considering doing a full manual t-case and hub swap but it is more of my dad's truck so can't make the full decision.

If it went into 4lo while the truck was moving your transfercase would have literally torn itself apart. You can unbolt the motor and shift the transfercase manually with a 3/8" rachet I believe. There is a company out there that sells a kit to make this method a permanent solution if you want to go that route. Its a dial that mounts in the floor which manually shifts an electric case when you turn the dial.

Correct Torky,You have a 4x4 switch- dash, passengers kick panel is the controller(processor board). It has a 2 wire harness pin connector to the left side , remove the two wire pin connector; key on ,push the square white button on the bottom edge of the processor and it will turn the red led light on .If the red light flashes , this means u have a problem with the actuator motor ,if the red light stays bright this means actuator board. Good luck Hope this helps .TR

Yeah, I had to unplug the 4WD Control Module, remove it from the bracket so it was out loose, then plug connectors back in, 'cuz I just couldn't see the little white button when it was mounted. Once I knew what to look for and where, maybe I could have pressed it in while it was still mounted.
