no concerns at all if you have tools, a shop area, know your way around parts manuals, and have lots of spare time.

I wouldn't limit my search to local only. You can get a running vehicle shipped from just about anyplace to anyplace for $1000. If you ship terminal to terminal it will be even less. You probably can fly some place & drive back for less.

I saw this one on car gurus.

If you are only towing 6,000 lbs you can look at F150's as well. My family members that have horses all use 1/2 ton pickups.

After I get this truck, I'll only be putting a few hundred miles on it each year. This is just for hauling during riding season.
I currently have a 99 F150 5.4 and have over 230,000. My dad bought it new in 99 and I bought it from him 5 years ago. Same engine, same transmission, but you can tell she is getting tired. I tow my duck boat with her around the metroplex, but try not to do much long distance anymore till I get a new truck. Gotta pay off student loan debt first.

She has always been a very reliable truck up till the last year or so. Since she has been over 210,000 miles.

A V10 matches up pretty well against diesel for longevity and power, however folks forget that exhaust studs and other such things were NOT designed to go 300,000 miles plus. As long as you know what the engineers considered "consumables", and be ready to replace when needed, you can get by just fine.

Also be aware gassers get their max power at ~twice(just a ballpark, no reference) the revs as diesel, and the engine is fine with that.
