Well this is fun. PATS issue
Hey guys. Hope you are all doing better then me. So here's my backstory.
I bought a 1999 F250 (light duty) 5.4L Canadian 7 lug. The PO lost the chipped key, tried to use the non-chipped key, got fustrated that the truck wouldn't start, broke the key off in ignition, hammered & sawed at the ignition damaging the heck out of the ignition, pats antenna/sensor and the steering flange.
So my issue is how to bypass the pats without a key? I've removed the ignition and replaced it with a 3 position switch (off/acc/run) and push button start. I live in a relaxed area so I'm not worried about a keyed ignition. I just got done dropping the tank to clean out the 4 year old gas and fixing some chewed wiring. Next up is vacuum lines. I can get the truck started but the theft light is flashing like a strobe and the truck shuts off. By the way, no OBD codes

My thoughts are that you will need to acquire a steering column to replace this butchered column or use parts from it to repair this column both mechanically and electrically. Once repaired, you will need to have a locksmith or shop with a Ford IDS that can cut and program two keys.
The programmer for the new keys will erase the old key info from PATS and program the PATS to recognize the two new keys.
JMHO.....

So my issue is how to bypass the pats without a key?
1. Get a tuner with a custom tune that includes PATS delete.
2. Repair the system enough to re-enable PATS functionality as below.
a. Get a new PATS transceiver.
b. If the original PATS keyhead or original key that's already programmed into the system is available, then zip tie that inside the transceiver ring and it should be read and recognized assuming no additional faults.
c. Buy several new chipped key blanks, then reprogram them into the system (Android device, OBDII adapter, Forscan app with extended license) by manually inserting each key into the transceiver ring and use your switches to simulate the operation of the ignition key.
Bit of a hack, but it should work if you're not inclined to replace the column and put it all back together as originally intended.

If a hammer is his idea of 'fixing' something, god help us if he reproduces. Follow the above instructions, preferably with either steel toed boots or golf spikes
