New truck, first EB!

Last year I downsized from my 2011 SD 6.7L KR to a 1794 edition Tundra, mainly because I sold my RV and no longer needed the diesel, but also because stuff had started breaking on the SD and I didn't want to be along for that ride, heh. The 1794 was nice, but I could just never get completely happy with it. I spent a decent chunk of change to make it what I wanted and about a year in realized it never would be a great truck. Good, definitely. Several great things in there, but overall... just too dated.

Then I got an email from a local Ford dealer, saying they were willing to get crazy on trade value and selling price to meet their monthly quota, and the incentives were already crazy on the 2016 F-150... so I went in for an appraisal. They offered me $42k for the Tundra that I only had about $45k in and had driven for 14 months - crazy indeed. I drove a few of the trucks on the lot and fell in love with the Blue Jeans color King Ranch FX4 F-150.

During the test drives, I definitely liked the feel of the 5.0 better since it was the old familiar v8 torque curve. But the EB was undoubtedly quicker if/when you decided to get up and go. I opted for the EB, convincing myself that if I just didn't like it, I would be in this truck cheaply enough that I could trade again in a year and just get another SD

So far, I like the EB a lot. The power curve reminds me of popeye. Pretty tame with light pedal input but the can of spinach is right there under your toe any time you want it. The bells and whistles on this KR model are insane. Plus, from what I can tell they took every offroad feature that I lvoed about my 2011 SD and put it in the 150. Locking diff, hill descent, etc etc... and all the technology just embarrasses the toyota I traded in.

So anyway I've been a member here for a long time, as I've owned a crap-ton of ford trucks over the years. Happy to be back in one now and back on these forums. Thanks for reading

Welcome back to the Ford family. I looked at the Tundra before I got my F-150. "Dated" is exactly how I'd describe that truck.

I like that description.

Now I double dare ya to yell out the window at the next guy that revs on you, "Don't make me open up a can of spinach on you!"

Congratulations on the new truck! I've never spent a whole lot of time in a Tundra, but definitely the most dated powertrain of the group.

The EcoBoost is a nice engine. We always opened a can of something else, a can of spinach sounds better

Congratulations on the purchase. I'm driving my first Ecoboost, as well. I put around 4,000 towing miles on mine last month. Does it pull like my old Ram 2500 4X4? Nope. But, it pulls better than any half ton truck I've owned. Overall the performance is acceptable. The creature comforts are some of the best.

I am renting a Toyota 4Runner and it really gets worse gas mileage! Tundra's outdated. Why do people like them so much? Marketing!

The resale on Toyotas are crazy. That and the reputaion they earned long ago are the main selling points.

Ford has nice option packages on the F150. I was sad to see that these same packages didn't carry over to the new Super Duty. I would have been curious to see an XLT Super Duty with a 302a/Sport package

I too went from a 2011 KR F250 diesel to a 2016 KR F150 Eco with all the bells and whistles . While I loved and thought the 250 was the best truck I have ever had, I'm not missing it . I missed the height of it (it was stock) but that's about it compared to the new 150 . So far after close to 15k miles this maybe the best truck and I love the increased interior space . The Eco does not make me miss the power of the 6.7 . I guess only time and miles will tell but I have no regrets over the switch.

how do you feel about the interiors between the two? Personally I feel like the newer one will hold up better than the 2011 version did, but I don't even have 1k miles yet. i know on my 2011, I had literally one drop of coffee sit on the passenger seat overnight and it ate right through that thin, bonded leather. the thicker stuff on the center console also got all nasty from the day to day sweat/oils/etc of my right arm. not nasty like it needed to be cleaned... nasty like no matter what i did to it, the discoloration and texture was never right again. I'm hoping this truck isn't a repeat of that experience

I also miss the ride height and stiffness of the SD. I modified my Tundra to get it to where the SD was stock (never modified the SD). I think I'm going to do the same thing on this 150. Currently pondering coilover kits.

The leather in the 150 seems to be better than on the 250. Only problem I had with the 2011 was the driver seat leather seemed to crack the color off. I did the leather KR leather conditioner since new but it still cracked . Dealer said I wasn't conditioning it and wouldn't warranty it. I think it was a factory problem they wouldn't admit too.
I sure like the interior of this truck, I'm sure the 17 250's are just as nice , but I don't think I need the increased capacity of it. I got the 6.5 bed and the max tow package on this 150 . So it will do all I want it to do only smoother and quieter .

I never once conditioned the leather on my 2012 Lariat. After 90K the seats still look good. I did keep them clean. I always wipe the interior down with a damp cloth after a truck wash or if it starts to get dirty. I do agree the F150 seats seem better than the F250 seats.

Liked the door sill on my '99 Sd better for resting arm on as my '16 150 falls away too soon with bad arm support!
