Mirrors

Anybody repoppin the Type #7 mirrors or know where I can get a set in good shape? That same guy on ebay still has the New Old Stock set for $600 bucks. I'm not doing a concourse resto so those are out of the question. Think ford part number is D6TB-17696-DA

This is an ID engineering number, not a part number.
You sure you want TYPE 7 (see pic)? If so, the mirror heads were available by themselves.

1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco:

D3TZ-17696-C .. TYPE 7 Swing-Lok Low Profile Stainless Steel Mirror with Mirror Head mounted on side of bracket / Right/Left same / Obsolete

No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
-------------------------------------------------------
D3TZ-17723-A .. Stainless Steel Mirror Head - 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" / Use with TYPE 7 D3TZ-17696-C Mirror / Obsolete ~ 4 available NOS

I need the whole set up not just the head. I have type #9 now and dont like the look on the my truck. IMO they are too modern looking. I had type #7s on my 73 and wish I still had it.

TYPE 9's were also introduced in 1973.

No one has any TYPE 7's. You realize if you do find a pair, you'll have to fill in the TYPE 9 holes and spot paint the doors.

There are FIVE different TYPE 9 mirrors. I know that two of them have a different span between the upper and lower brackets.

One type has flat upper/lower brackets, the other type has curved upper/lower brackets. The other three may be the same, may not be as one of these, as the parts catalog doesn't say.

NumberDummy, do you happen to know the original application(s) for the Type 4 mirrors as shown in your chart? Are those for Broncos?

I have type 7's on my truck and personally I hate them. I find them very difficult to see anything out of them, especially on the passenger side. If they were in better shape, I would swap with you. If however you are into the whole rust/ patina thing with a dash of redneck engineering (electrical tape to keep the mirror from sliding down the tube while driving) then boy do I have a deal for you!

Let me check my parts bin. I may an extra set that I may part with. They're used, but not beat up. Pm me if you're interested.

Exactly how I feel. I can't even see all of the passenger mirror. I have been pondering type 9's with a add on tow mirror. Or, there is an idea running through my head for a telescoping type 9.

This is one of the few issues I have with older trucks. I absolutely loved the telescoping mirrors on my Excursion.

X3, have the 7's and hate them, had 9's on a Bronco I sold (Regrettably) and loved them. The 7's wont hold position and I've tried everything except lock tight.

Upper pic: Two position TYPE 9's (the heads can be swung out) were available on 1980/91 trucks/Bronco's.

Bill, you are my hero. I have owned many Ford trucks over the years of all ages and I have never seen these mirrors. Now the hunt is on.

I don't believe the 80 and up mirrors will fit a dent side truck right. The slope of the doors are different. The mounting bolts are metric on 80 and up.
