Steering gear box
Hey Guys, My steering box is so worn it is causing my truck to wander at all speeds. What would be a fair price for labor to remove and replace? Does 2 hours seem legit if the job is straight forward with no snags? 1988 F150 4x4 with 6" lift.

That seems bit long to me if they are using air tools but I haven't paid to have that done in a long time. The only thing I have had to do is take the box to a shop with a better pitman arm puller than I have. There isn't much to it so why not tackle the job yourself.

Well, it's my daily driver and I'm also concerned about how tough the pitman arm will be to remove. Also, I tend to get a little messy in the driveway (fluids), which my wife just loves.

I had to have mine changed on my 1992 F-150 a while back.
One trusted mechanic I go to quite often quoted it at $300 parts and labor.
I ended up getting a great deal because someone I worked with knew a mechanic and he did it for $180 parts and labor.
I hope that helps.

I figured about $260 for parts & labor. Man, you got a helluva deal for $180. Thanks for the input, Guys,
