Question '69 fuel and temp gauge problems

I'm having some troubles on my '69 with both the fuel and temp gauges. They are not reading accurately at all. The fuel gauge reads near empty when the tank is nearly full and the temp gauge stays at "C". The sending unit in the tank is less than a year old as well as the instrument panel voltage regulator. When I ground out the sending unit, the gauge moves to "F". A friend of mine did the same with the wire to the temp sensor as I watched the gauge go to "H". i know that some voltage regulators can be adjusted but I see no way of adjusting this one (looks like the standard unit without the adjusting screw). What should I look at and/or replace?

My first thought is that you have a Chinese voltage regulator as a replacement.
CVRs supply a constant 6 volts or so to the gauges regardless of alternator voltage. I suspect you have a bad one; our parts guys will be in about Ford parts.

If there is an adjustment for the voltage out of these CVRs, I don't know where it is after 50 years.

That was my first guess (chinese quality). Is there a better option or are these things hit and miss like the ignition condensers?

Ouch on the price.
These vibrating reed units are dinosaur technology. Ultra may be in with a cheapo home-built unit using Zener diodes and common components. He did it, as I recall. Or he may be able to provide a link to aftermarket stuff.

Holy smokes! Sticker shock is an understatement. I'm definitely interested in the Zener diodes (for the reliability). I agree that the regular units are dinosaur technology.

I suggest still calling the two places Bill posted above for the Motorcraft ones. Their prices may be cheaper than what Ford lists as "last known price". Just before Ford discontinues a part number they bounce it's prices a ton. The places above may have older prices.

USD INC. in Phoenix AZ has 1 = 602-258-1900.

MORROW BROTHERS FORD in Greenfield IL has 1 = 217-368-3037.

DEWEY MOTORS FORD in Hughes Springs TX has 1 = 903-639-2516.

I have had good luck with this outfit. Here is a link to the CVR they provide. $25.

Ford - Ford - Ford Pickup Truck Constant Voltage Regulator - F100 - F250 - Macs Auto Parts

Write to them and see if this is what you need. Avoid China. Don't pay $100 for obsolete garbage that has been shelved for 30 years.

Thanks for the help everyone. Definitely avoiding Chinese quality. I came across this electronic one at National Parts Depot for $39.95 Does anyone know anything about it?

USD is a current Motorcraft warehouse so they would go with Ford's Last Known price. Which they are. I called them and asked for my cost. I didn't offer what it might be. He said $53.05.
But one of the others may go by old prices as I stated earlier..

Wrong puppy dog, this is B9MZ-10804-C = 1961/66 F100/1100 / 1966/77 Bronco / Misc 1959/66 Passenger Cars.

If you call the dealers, you'll get genuine NOS made in the USA Ford parts.

The repro parts sellers may have genuine Ford made in the USA parts...but IMO, they're probably buying them from auto parts stores, so guess where they're made?
