Our 06 Explorer EB rear hatch stopped working yesterday, rear hatch will not open. The outside door handle moves freely but will not activate release mechanism. Hatch window is working fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

There should be an emergency release on the inside. Probably covered by a small removable cover. Push press, pull or whatever to release it. Might be able to find the problem once the hatch is open

 

Thank you for the reply. No luck with finding a emergency release. However the rear hatch must have sensed that I have enlisted the aid of FTE. must have scared the heck out of it, and just like that it's working like nothing has ever happened. I will probably pull rear panel off and check things out when I have time.

Is there any chance you had the doors locked and that's why the hatch wouldn't open? Do you have the doors set to automatically unlock when the engine is shut off or did you maybe still have the vehicle running when you tried this?
