SRW vs. DRW Rear Brake Drums

I'm running duals on a SRW axle by using 2" wheel spacers. Yesterday I was inspecting the drums and discovered a crack in one of the drums so today I am pricing a replacement. I noticed the SRW and DRW versions are similar prices so what I'm wondering is am I able to just buy the DRW drums and not need the spacers? If the only difference is the thickness of the hub face then there shouldn't be a problem, but doesn't anyone know of any reason that wouldn't work?

Here is an example of the two I'm looking at:

https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p...482_0229608493

https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/p...1469_022809237

That said, this whole ordeal has me wondering if this is the right time to just convert to disk brakes, but the same question about using the DRW as opppsed to the SRW rotor would still be present.

the srw axle uses 3" shoes and the drw uses 3.5" shoes.
you can't use the deeper drum because there isn't enough room between the backing plate.you can't move the backing plate back and use the drw shoe and drum because there isn't enough room before you'd hit the springs.the drw axle uses the bigger drum and shoe because it's much wider axle than the srw.to not only fit the wider shoe and drum but provide you with enough room to put duals on.

there are no good rear disk brake options for these trucks.only car type setup.you'll end up with less braking power,not more.
sure,one could argue that disks are better for less fade,but i see your in TX.your not likely to be coming down very,long and steep grades out there.

if you want to increase braking performance.these two options are the best,and in order of priority;
1.swap to hydroboost.the f450 systems of the era,bolt right on,with no,to little fabrication.this is by far,the single most mod you can do,to increase braking performance.if anyone disagrees,they're wrong.very wrong.this will drastically increase the safety of your truck.
2.change out the srw axle with spacers and install a true drw axle.you'll gain a total of another inch on brake shoe depth.

do both of these (like i did to my f250) and you'll never want for better braking again.she'll just stop on a dime,even when loaded.

Awesome, thanks for the idea. Don't be too sure about Texas though, it's not all plains and desert like people think. I live at an elevation of almost 4,000 feet near what is essentially the base of the Rocky Mountains. The grades here are worse than crossing the Smokies and Appalachians when I visit family in NC.

5 lug or 8?

I bought the wrong drums (SRW instead of DRW). Might be worth it depending on shipping. Your NAPA links aren't working here, so not sure what they're charging. LMK if interested.

Sure, let me know what you want for them with shipping. Napa wants about $60 each. I'm only really needing one so I'm looking at the $60 or so but to have the spare if I could get it for a decent deal I'd of course be willing to pay more and help you recover some of your money at the same time.
