So i have a 1987 F150 with a 1989 302 in it. Its got a 3 speed auto tranny. Its been running pretty good recently. But i took it out tonight and got on the main road, i gave it gas, it sputtered and lagged, until it downshifted. Then when i let off it upshifted. Again when i gave it gas its sputtered and lag till it downshifted. When i left a resturaunt later that night it ran fine about 2-3 miles. Then it did the same thing on a slight incline until i floored it. Any clue whats goin on?

 

you are going to want to pull codes and check fuel pressure (in that order, since most people don't have a gauge with which to check fuel pressure, but anyone can check codes with just a paper clip).

yes, you can still have codes waiting for you, even if your"check engine light" is not on.
