Alright, did 5 years in AZ had a lot of buddies out at that Marine base in Yuma. I was at the Yuma Proving Grounds. Too hot for me in that part of the country.

 

Ugh. I spent 9 months in 29 Palms for MOS school. I'm glad I didn't have to stay longer than that!

 

Made a number flights in and out of Yuma when I was with Naval Weapons Testing. Did some Radar jamming tests out there as well.


Did some weapons testing at 29 Palms too...to bad we couldn't have used bigger warheads. Joshua Tree wasn't even that exciting.

 

I always thought 29 Palms was pretty awful. But then we got to go do a CAX at China Lake Naval Wpns Station...made The Stumps look pretty posh.

 

After my 1 1/2 years with Naval Weapons Testing and Pacific Missle Test Center I have come to the conclusion that the proverbial unaccompanied orders to the "radar station in Northern Alaska" would be a much better than ever getting stationed or having to spend time in China Lake. We didn't even like to land there for lunch or debriefing, but occasionally they would make us do just that.
