I believe my engine has failed....

Just wondering what this opening is for? The view is from the drivers side, to the left is the front of the vehicle....

No if your engine had failed you would know it, that is just an access point/drain hole for the transmissions torque converter.. usually has a rubber plug in it.

It had been knocking for a while
It was on the driveway for a couple of years, drove it around the block once a week
Had to use it this week, got about 250 miles out of her before the knock changed tone and it started smoking on the interstate, she served me well & got to a nice lot where this picture & video was taken. The oil pressure gauge dropped to the lowest....
