NO clutch safety switch

Evening All,

2002, F250, 5.4L, ZF-6 trans.

Ok...today by accident turned the key with the truck in gear and clutch not depressed...much to my surprise the truck tried to start and lurched forward.

Is this a sign of a failing clutch safety switch or has someone bypassed it at some point in the past?

Could it be an ignition switch problem?

Anything else that I am not thinking of?

Thanks,
Rick

Sounds like the neutral safety switch has been removed or modified for some reason.

That may be true, I can see the black part behind my clutch.

I have been trying to find a diagram of how it should look original from the factory...does anyone have the diagram or a photo for a 2002 F250?

should be a simple on/off type switch with 2 wires...
like the OLDER brake light switch..

not the real OLD Ford brake light switch attached to master cylinder.

some people would disable them so they could install a remote start on a vehicle with a manual transmission - not too safe

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo

a little clutch (brake) fluid leaks down that shaft...eats the tiny ink pen spring, and **VIOLA** switch doesn't work any more.....

Unplug it...there's 2 tabs on the side that you pry with a flathead and the side cover will come off and it'll come right off the shaft...

You can buy one for $70 at the parts house, $6 million at the Ford Place, or $25 on ebay......my ebay one said it wouldn't fit my truck....only 7.3's, 6.0's, and 6.4's that have the manual.....obviously the clutch is identical....I bought it anyway and it works like a charm

Truck won't start without clutch depressed and my cruise works!! Woo hoo!
