... So this fellow calls me and says "I hear you are into ol Ford/Merc trucks". ... Yup, what you got. Genuine original 47 Merc 1tonner. Its about a 100 miles away, so I go have a look. ....

... Parked in 1982. Sunk in the dirt to its axles. Sitting well hidden in an empty abandoned overgrown farm yard. ....... A few $$ changes hands ... and yup, it follows me home. .....

Awesome. No matter how rough the truck, those 7.50 x 17s fill up those wheel wells like nuthin' else! Wouldn't it be nice to find some NOS tonner rear fenders? They always took a hit. And 3 merc tonner hubcaps!!!! Holy cow.

..... I used to pass on 1 and 2 tonners thinking ... Who wants them big ol ugly trucks. ... ... Now I grab them and give a safe home. I have a half dozen or so 1tonner Ford/Mercs. Probably enough good parts to build a couple of them. Its better than letting them get recycled into green bean cans. .... I won't build them all. Too many projects on the go now. But let me tell ya, when I die, its going to be a really good auction sale. ....

...PS. ... I have a hard time passing on stray cats also. These are my garage buddies. Catching some sun in the dead of winter. Cute gray Smokey and tougher than nails - dead serious Fred. ....

.....A few years back I heard about a couple ol Ford trucks and a Ford sedan. ... So I go have a look. ...

...Genuine 46 2-tonner, cut off behind the cab, a 47 Mercury 1 1/2 tonner, and a 47 sedan.... Owner says not for sale. ... So, I visit him fairly regulary, made him a decent fair offer, still not for sale. hmmmm.
... The other day my phone rings. Says if my offer is still good, he'll take it.
Today, I had an excellent adventure. ...

We get them out in the open.

...Said money changes hands, and they follow me home. ...

... The 47 Merc is a 1 1/2 tonner. Never knew they made a 1 1/2 ton. Until now. Wonder how rare the beast is...

...The chopped off 46 2-tonner. Good parts truck. Decent sheet metal. And the grill bars, 13 of 15 there. Stone bruised paint, but not a single dent in them. ... Good parts are where you find them. ...

... I know this is a truck site, but the sedan is part of the story. The engine out of it was in his shed. He kept the cylinders oiled. ... Good parts are where you find them. ...

....All in all, I had a pretty good day in my world today. All 3 now sitting in my back 40, with their brothers and sisters, safe and sound from the deadly crusher peoples. ...
...And yes, we are on verge of the grip of old man winter. ...

Ok, dumb question alert. What is the difference between a 1.5 ton and a 2 ton truck (besides half a ton). The data plate on my truck states 12,500 lbs gross wt. Maybe I've been incorrectly calling my truck a 1.5 ton.
