86 motor home 460, what do I have?

Bought the motor and c6 for $250, he pulled them and told me to take whatever else I wanted! Took the steering wheel for my 78 4wd crew, dual battery setup, and enough stuff like radiator and a/c condenser to get most of my money back. My question is this, I've been told that 86 is a good year because the heads are good and they used cobra jet rods, true? I assumed that it would have good power since it was out of a motorhome but I'm kinda disappointed. It put it in my 76 f100 sb 2wd and it's just not what I expected. It still has the factory 4bl intake but I made a plate to delete the smog crap. Other than that it is stock including the exhaust manifolds. I have 2 other intakes, excelbrock performer (don't care for them) and a new weiland stealth. Plan on installing the stealth but just wanted to work out any bugs for now. Turned the timing up to about 12 deg and it runs "decent" but my 78 4wd crew 460 will walk all over it. The crew cab motor is mildly built but I would expect the little f100 to be pretty wicked and it's just not there. Would it have a retarded timing set or is it straight up timing? Do I need to change out the cam (if I do a suggestion would be appreciated)? Are the pistons ok or are they better suited as dog bowls? This is my first try at a "newer" 460 and also no tear down and complete rebuild. Any insight and info would be great, thanks.

Also compression ratio is only about 7.5-1 considering 1971 had 10.5-1. That and the fact that the exhaust ports on these heads are horrible. And yes it will have dogs bowls for Pistons. A set of flat tops Pistons, a straight up timing set and little porting on the heads would make a world of difference.
