Sudden Electrical issue - no wiper, no lights

I took my first long trip with my 79 E150 from NM to CA

All was fine the first 2 days but on the last day the following:
-Wiper motor non functional (I had thought it just died of old age)
-No turn signals (Emergency blinkers working)

Also, but I think unrelated: alt wasn't charging battery and had to get a jump. When I get the alt off I saw the small 3rd wire was disconnected. I reattached it and now the battery charges, but the wiper & signals are still out.

I also noticed today that the speedometer was jumpy today but not sure that's relevant.

Any ideas what's up?

Check the grounds good?
We had a short in the lighting wires on a work truck and it killed the entire dash cluster and the rest of the lights.
Do yo have fuses as well as relays?
