2006 F250 Rust
Looking to purchase an 06 F250 with 93k miles this week. Everything looks clean from what I can tell from the pictures, with the exception of what appears to be minor rust on a part just above the tire. Never owned an F250 before so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether or not I should be concerned? Is this a make or break thing? Thanks in advance.

You need to supply a little more information on what the engine is? what type of cab size? what length of bed? is this on a car lot or at a dealer or is it a private sale?
Did you pull a carfax or Auto check? Did the seller or dealer provide you with maintenance records? What does the engine look like, any leaks, does it look like it's been taken care of? are the fluids clean? Dipstick smell like burned oil?
Did you crawl under neath and look for leaks from the front all the way to the back?
If you provide more info, some of us will tell you what to look at and what to look for. A truck is like that ginsu knife set you see on the t.v. shopping channel, not only do you get the knife but all the other crap that comes with it.
The one thing you definitely want to do is ask for maintenance records, if the person selling this truck doesnt have any, then go to a for dealer and get an oasis report and it will give you an idea of what has been done when they had it for warranty work or other work, but you still want to crawl all over and under it, and if you still not sure take it and get it inspected or have a mechanically inclined friend look at it.
The tire pics dont tell us a lot

2006 crew cab xlt short bed turbo diesel.
Two previous owners. Carfax doesn't show too much maintenance history. Engine compartment is very clean. The whole truck looks to be in pretty good shape. I haven't seen it in person yet as it is about two hours north of where I live. It's at a used car dealer, but not one of those sketchy "anyone can get approved" type of dealers.
I'm not worried about the tire, I'm worried about that rust-colored thing just above the tire. Not inclined to make a 4-hour round trip drive if it's something that someone else would recommend against buying.
It's not my first truck, just my first super duty. I plan on doing a thorough inspection when I check it out in person.

With diesels there is lots to be on the look out for. You definitely want to have it checked over real well. The rust looks minor from what the picture looks like.
You need to have a read of the Things To Look for When Buying A Used 6.0 Diesel Have a read of it, there is a lot of good information in there.

Last thing you wanted to do is buy a diesel and then find out it needs a boat load of money put in it, reading that guide will help you to be a little more knowledgeable about what to look for and to let you know whether to plunk down your cash or run like hell.
Of course your welcome to ask more questions here too, the folks here that have 6.0 are pretty knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions
