What is the deal with H&S? (mini maxx tuners) etc?
I used to keep on the "up and up" with regard to the different aftermarket manufacturers, but I have been busy with other things over the past few years and now thoroughly out of the loop. I did a few searches but am still unclear. My question is, what is the “deal" with what used to be H&S performance? It appears that there is now an H&S motorsports (similar logo), is this the same company? At one point I was in contact with a “Robert” (RedsandMotorsport.com) who I believe was a previous H&S employee, who was providing some level of support for their tuners. I don’t know if Redsand is still in operation or what their status is. I’ve seen a few other companies mentioned here offering unlocks (No Limit, etc). Have these companies just figured out how to “hack” the lock tuning, but are otherwise offering no support?
It looks like vendors are still selling the mini-maxx tuners. Are these all refurbed units, or is someone still manufacturing them? Is anyone providing support / repair for them? Obviously the bully dog product appears to be the same piece of hardware. At one point someone told me the the same company manufactured the GT and MiniMaxs tuners. Of course when I contacted Bully Dog, the support rep denied this and told me that make the tuner themselves… I have a hard time believing this as the module looks and functions basically identically.
It seemed like the EPA was hot and heavy there for a period of time to shut down delete-capable tuning companies, but H&S was the only one who really got affected? I don’t recall SCT or Spartan missing a beat.
We have mini-maxx tuners on a couple of deleted 6.4 trucks that have been working for years without issues. When I bought my 6.7 back in 2012, I tracked down an unlocked delete-capable mini-maxx for a future install when the truck was out of warranty (currently still sitting in the box). I’m curious about what options I would have if either of these tuners ever malfunctioned, or required replacement.
Anyone who has the low-down, please bring me up to speed.
Thanks!

You now have to get in touch with a performance diesel shop that tunes them, if it fails or want custom tunes. You can google search it and find a few threads about it.
Right now 2 companies come to mind, No Limit Diesel and Gear Head Performance in Bryan, Texas I think. Google gear head tuning and it should pop up.
