1996 f250 5.8l 5speed m lack of acc/none in 5th gear

Truck was idleing high but had no acceleration so I reset the KAM and it helped with 1st through 3rd gear acceleration but have none acc. In 5th. Not really sure what it could be. I checked spark plugs no cracks but it was off recomended gap so I reset them and cleaned the carbon buildup. Plan on replacing them this friday. Do y'all think that they could be the problem??

I don't have away to pull codes and my CEL is out I believe. today I realized it also has a miss and if I unplug the map sensor the truck idles down to the correct idle and shows that all timing is correct. Does the MAP have anthing to do with spark?

So I was just reading my book on the truck and found the spark problem might be the TFI-IV. I'll get a code reader tomorrow and post what if find

You cannot check the spark while the computer has control of it, as it will vary the spark all over the place to help smooth the idle. You must unplug the SPOUT connector before checking timing.

You don't need a code reader to pull codes either, just a paperclip.

Oh... Ok thank you I'll retest it tomorrow after I run the codes

The later trucks (92+) moved the TFI/ICM off the distributor to improve longevity.

I ran the KOEO test and pulled 122, and 376. So I will be looking to replace the TPS and then rerun the test

376 isn't a code as far as I can tell, so you might want to double check that.

I posted that off of memory. I just reviewed my notes and it was code 327 when I looked it up in my book it showed as a EVP sensor voltage low

I'd definitely start with the TPS. Pay careful attention to the TPS wires too, it's fairly common to find the TPS wires chaffed with bare copper exposed.

I replaced tps and that got rid of that code still showing 327 so I tested sensor and it's bad as well so today I'll change that and see if I get the all clear to test timing

Sounds good, just remember to pull the SPOUT connector while checking timing.
