Help deciding what kind of tuner to get.

My 03 excursion 6.0 has 176k miles on it. Maintenance is where it should be. It's never had a tuner on it. Stock hg and head bolts. Egr delete, coolant filter, and exhaust all added. Looking to make some gains in mpg. At this point I don't want an aggressive tune that may cause blown hg' s just some increased mpg. Should i consider a ficm tune alone or something else like an edge or sct? What would be the benefits of just a ficm tune?

The large benefit of a tune only on the FICM is that it doesn't materially (some would say at all) impact peak cylinder head pressures. For differences in the FICM tunes, check out PHP Tunes.

If you can't afford to be down in order to get a FICM tune, we can also just ship you out the tuner itself on a loaner basis so that you can try them all out!

We can also help you out on the custom ECM tuning front, but would encourage you to consider just getting an SCT tuner and trying those tunes out before you necessarily go the custom tune path. Alternatively, you can ship over your ECM and we can load up on a tune on that.

If you want to talk over the myriad of options, give us a call. We're at 515-897-4459.

So the ficm tune doesn't add boost, Just changes injection timing?

FICM tuning doesn't change boost, no. It mucks with injector pulse width to provide faster turbo spool up times and increases (sometimes DRAMATIC increases) in throttle response.
