I have a complete 6.8L V10 just removed from my 2000 excursion. Replacing it with a Cummins 12valve. Engine was removed intact. No wires cut. No pipes cut or broken. Includes PS pump, AC compressor, Alternator, Y downpipe, the 9 yards. Has over 200K miles but was running great when I removed it. Just recently drove to Gulf Coast, Detroit and Northern VA. No problems.

What is a PI head engine?
This Excursion was built in 99, but it is a 2000 model.

 

It was a redesigned 2 valve head for the modular engines Mustangs in 99, 4.6 trucks were a mixed bag 2000-2001, Panthers (full size cars) 03 were the first year PI engines, V-10 & 5.4 V-8 was 2000. PI heads made more power at higher rpm. Non PI heads have round ports PI heads square ports.

 

Is there an easy way to tell if it has the PI heads?

 

It's a model yr thing I was trying to nail down when exactly PI heads were produced on V10 production trucks/vans. When I find it I'll get back to you.

 

I believe all Excursions had PI heads.
