P350 VIN Decode Help

Can someone help me out and decode this VIN P35D6U45948 and or Identify this vehicle? A buddy of mine wanted me to help him get this thing running. From spending 2 hours on google I narrowed down I think is late 50s?? Thanks in advance

Where did you find the data plate? What's the location on the van?


Looks like:


P35 = P-350 Parcel delivery
D = I6 223 inline engine
6 = 1956
U = Louisville KY Plant
45948 = Production #

It was on the pass side in the cab right when you walk in the side door fender well

Does it list a code for the axle or transmission somewhere on the plate also?

Yeah I think in the picture it shows the 5.14 axle code. I can take a better picture of the rest of the tag. It has 17" 6 lug wheels the rear axle looks like a floater style. It is a column shift man Trans. 8000 gvwr was another portion of the tag.

No problem, the pic isn't showing up for me... work computer has draconian oversight. I'll check the post when I get home tonight.

Your wheels are widow makers having the Firestone RH-5° outer rim. You'll find Budd part number 68600 on them somewhere. Handle with care, and best to let the air out before messing with them. Stu
