Looking for something I could tow with the Rubicon Unlimited (4 door)..
Factory says max trailer weight is 3500 but frankly, I think that's bogus.. It's the only think Chrysler makes outside of their trucks with a real frame... Even Minivans are rated for 5k with the same engine..

You have a short wheelbase though, about 3" shorter than most minivans. That could make controlling something heavy a challenge. I wouldn't hesitate going over 3,500 lbs provided it handled well on a test drive.

Yeah,
I call the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee Jeep Minivans, but really now. Just that they don't have full frames under them. One thing they do have, however, is an 8 speed transmission.
...
There is a fella on one of the Jeep forums that tows his Bass Boat loaded with camping gear all around the country with his. He's not weighed it, but is certain that he's over 5k# and has had no problems..

Only thing I can think of is that the Jeep "minivans" would have a better suspension and steering setup for controlling trailer sway.

Good morning guys....
Tom - oddly enough, even the 2 door Jeep has built in trailer sway control (electronic)... I agree that a longer wheelbase is a better tow vehicle, but I'm just at odds with the factory limitation at 3500#... So, do I chance it? We'll see... My little trailer will be loaded to 3500# max along with the Jeep Rubicon stuffed full of tools, clothes when we migrate south for the winter in 7 weeks.. I plan on buying a light duty 600# sway control and equalizer bars for it. We'll see how it handles that load - I suspect it will just fine...
