But I thought it was for the most part? Bolt on that is. The 6.0 was the same frame and cab wise correct? From what I've read with people swapping a 7.3 in 6.0s had little modifications to make it work
Uh, bud, if you had a complete donor truck of the same generation, you'd have a better chance, but there are a LOT of differences between an '06 5.4L or 6.8L (you don't say which) and a '99 7.3L diesel.
Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, that way madness lies. If you just have to have yourself a 7.3L truck, go buy a 7.3L truck and sell what you got. You'll be a lot happier. If you have to ask about the swap, you're not prepared to do the swap. And the kind of deep pockets you'd need would be much better used on just writing a check to buy the truck you want.
I think frankentrucks are only worth it if you really want it bad and are extremely capable mechanically. Otherwise I see it as an expensive nightmare. A lifetime of sorting problems.
Sounds like it's not worth it. I have a 99 7.3 with a bad frame, complete though. I was hoping the major just stuff was bolt-in
You could probably put the '06 FRAME under the otherwise complete '99 truck. That would get you the newer style suspension , without having to worry about all the electrical and other related differences. You could also swap the '06 nose onto the '99 without to much trouble.
I was originally thinking of swapping everything over from the 99 to the 06, motor, trans, harness, interior, etc. Basic just use 06 frame and cab. That's why I thought most of it bolted up with just a few small mods.
None of this sounds easy. But if you're doing it for the drivetrain. You'd put the old drivetrain into the new chassis/interior. Who would want the older body or interior?
I don't know enough about things like gauge clusters and so forth, either. If you've got the tools, the time, the space, the ability, and the willingness, and you don't need either truck to run for a long time, go for it.
