Carb Spacer

I have a newly rebuilt 390 with an Edelbrock aluminum intake. Sitting on top is a 600cfm Edelbrock 1406 4bbl carb. Is it likely that I will have gas boiling issues if I don't buy a big spacer like what came stock on my 360/2bbl ?

Maybe, maybe not. Depends.

A carb spacer is never a bad idea IMO.

A one-inch spacer, phenolic, is a good idea. No metal to metal conduction except via the carb studs, and less heat transfer via radiation.

A 1" phenolic spacer stopped the boiling on my setup. Big difference in performance as well. Add one today!

I stayed up late last night researching carb spacers. Jegs even sells wood ones made by Eldonbrock. I bought one made by Holley, on Ebay for $36- 1 inch thick made of composite material with gaskets.

I think I paid something like $14 for my 2" phenolic spacer, with gaskets.

One-inch Edelbrock with longer carb studs and nuts as a $30 package. I went with Summit carb gaskets.

Can a person take out the aluminum spacer (egr it has the vacuum pot on it) I think and replace it with the phenolic spacer?
