Air Conditioning

Happy Thursday everyone. On my 83 f150 5.8 truck, the air conditioning has stopped blowing cold air. After inspecting, it looks like I have a larger port (with a blue cap) on the left side of the engine and a smaller cap that looks like it was installed on the truck when made. The question I have is has the ac been converted to r134 knowing this information?

blue cap indicates it has atleast had a R134a fitting installed. Now the question is was the old R12 removed or did they just simply add R134a to the system that still had R12 in it.

The best is since it sounds like it needs a charge in my opinion is to. drain out the oil from the compressor buy a new filter/drier add a pag oil evacuate system & charge with 134A.
But first make sure the compressor is good. Ford compressors fail & are prone to Black Death. If your oil or freon is black then you have a much bigger job in front of you.

really depends on the compressor if he has a dealer A/C unit after 1982 installed or a pre '82 factory ac system using the York Techumsa compressor then the oil is the least of the worries as the York style of compressor has a sump to lube the compressor so oil swap is not necessary as the oil does not flow with the refrigerant like it would on a sumpless design. The old A6 GM compressors had a sump as well on the York style and the A6 style I never changed over to Pag oil never even changed the oil to be honest and the A/C has been working for years and years without failiure.
