Road condition, I-88, Schenectady to Binghampton, NY

This may not be the right place but it is a 5er I'm hauling
I'm in the process of lining out our upcoming fall trip West. The easiest way to pick up I-81 then I-64 West is via I-88 from Schenectady. I have usually made a couple trips that way every year by now, but haven't this year. That road has gotten abysmally bad in places but there have been some sections repaved in the past couple years. Anyone been that way this year? With an RV in tow? And is it as bad as in the past or have some improvements been made? If not, I'll do the alternate but longer I-87/I-84 to I-81 since we really don't need the interior completely scrambled.

Not as bad as some I've driven, bot not good either. You do have to have sympathy for the trailer on roads like this. The town is Binghamton, (no P). Named for the founder named Bingham.

Well, guess I make my decision when we get to the intersection of I-90 and I-87 if I go I-88 or I-84 (yep, sounds confusing to a non 'local')'
Thanks

The extra and expensive tolls on NYS Thruway might have a factor in your decision, Dave.

Nah - when ya got it flaunt it

Absolutely and for sure. The toll from the Syracuse I-81 exit to Amsterdam Exit 27 is $37 bucks for about a hundred miles That tends to grind my teeth with the hole gouged from my wallet.

I just went through there last week....The road conditions are ok but there is still a lot of construction right where I-81, I-88, and I-86 (aka Rt.17) all come together in Binghamton.....It really wasn't bad...we only sat in traffic for 5 minutes or so. Other than that, it was pretty smooth driving.
