I'm betting an upper control arm failed since the top of the tire is leaning in. My dad has a 3/4 ton Chevy and he's beat the ever loving snot out of it. Two snapped front drive shafts, neither bumper is completely intact, busted running board and who knows what else. He has MS and at 76 years old he isn't the driver he used to be. Then again, even when he was 40, riding with him you had to take valium.

We have a TON of suspension and steering problem threads in the Super Duty forum, and more than a few in this one. I wouldn't cast stones from the glass house.
In particular I remember a thread a few years ago where an under-warranty truck suffered a balljoint failure causing the knuckle to separate from the rest of the axle. Took the front fender with it, and he was denied warranty coverage because of alleged abuse, even though that obviously wasn't the case. Can't find it though, but I remember seeing the photos.
Here's one without pics: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...t-failure.html
Your solid axle still has balljoints, and just like anything else mechanical, they can fail before their time.
ON edit: Found it!

Stuff of every design breaks. This is an anecdotal example of a single failure. If I had my choice, I'd have IFS on my 2017 for the improved ride quality. Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's beat our chests and say real men like their trucks to ride like trucks...lol. If that's the case, I'm fine not being a real man...
