So check this out:
Single - 3" Cat-Back System - Ultra Flo? Welded Muffler - P/N: 39508 - DynoMax® Performance Exhaust
We use one of our Race Bullets as a resonator then one of our Ultra Flo Welded in a 3" variety in/out.
This is the one.
Ultra Flo? Welded - Offset / Centered Muffler - P/N: 17233 - DynoMax® Performance Exhaust
A lot of folks will just use the muffler. I have had our F-150 for the last few weeks and I love this system. Not too loud and nice growl to it.
Good luck!

u get what you pay for big time when it comes to an exhaust system..
Materials, design all play a part of this obviously.
IMO you want Stainless and you want something that will sound great
Nothing sucks more than to slap in your new catback and have a
dronemachine that you cant hear your passengers speak.
If your going to just splice in a muffler its the lesser cost option
but still want it to be stainless and hopefully well reviewed

Great points on stainless.
A majority of ours mufflers are stainless, a few on the Super Turbo line are aluminized.
Also our sound and performance guarantee is pretty cool.

Best bang for the buck muffler IMO for the race type cars...

Nice!!! They are loud and amazing. I agree about the race/muscle car application. But they are loud.

I'll just throw out my $.02 since I work for the company that makes the exhausts. I understand the OP said for better sound, my post has more to do with performance. The stock mufflers for the 5.0 and 3.5 EB are flow through mufflers with side branch tuning. The pipe going through them is 2.75". The tail pipe coming out is mandrel bent, 3" OD. The inlet pipe to the mufflers is 2.5" pipe. If you'relooking to boost pperformance, I don't think there's much to be gained from an aftermarket cat back system. I would think replacing the pipe and resonator between the cat and muffler would be the best way to go. I don't know what size pipe comes out of the cat, but I suppose there's a little to gain if it is 3" and a cat back was 3" all the way through.

I put the Gibson Dual sport on mine it is a 5.0. I love the sound and it is all stainless for around $600, the aluminized was less at around $400. It bolted right up nice and easy. I have always been a Flowmaster fan but the kits seemed so expensive, I 5K miles later, I would use the Gibson system again.
