I have a 1992 holiday rambler with ford 460 power ( 40k miles). the transmission will not shift into OD going down the highway . when you take your foot completely off the gas pedal ( at 60 mph) the trans will shift into OD. When the trans shifts into OD this way , I can push the (OD OFF DASH BUTTON) button repeatedly and the trans shifts in and out of OD, but as soon as I touch the gas pedal ( even 1/4 ") it is back to 3rd . rpm runs ( in 3rd) @ 3400 rpm @ 60mph and when it shift into OD (foot OFF the gas ) rpm drops to 2600 .( rpms are approx watching rpm gauge )
I have replaced trans oil (syn)& filter. and replaced the TPS twice , second time genuine ford part. I made sure TPS was installed slightly ccw and then aligned the holes ..I checked the voltages on the TPS and they are right on .
I am at a loss . any ideas ??????
It gets tween 7 and 8 mpg ( canadian .) as is .
I bought from fella living in it for 8 years . and have put 5,000 miles on it so far.
thanx

First you need to run the self-test and at the end of the KOEO part after the space codes see what code there is in the CM part.
Note the CM part will not give any of the road codes if you disconnect the battery and you may also lose them if you use the salesman switch to cut power to the chassis.
You may have a bad speed input to the PCM Computer but drive it and see what the CM codes say.

I got a OBD1 reader from Innova electronics corp
hooked it up . guess it does the KOEO test and displays results
code came up ---111-10-628
their code book says the code 628 means "excessive converter slippage" ...
test conditions "O, C" .....
a bit strange as the tranny is only in OD when I take my foot completely off the gas pedal ...
my understanding of "excessive converter slippage" is that the tranny is in OD and the converter is locked up --- and the ratio of motor rpm to differential rpm are not in the proper ratio ...
I will clear the code and take it for a drive and press the OD LOCKOUT button and see if the code is there after that

now , that makes some sense . If the wiring runs over the motor and if a little furry critter chewed some of it .. would make a lot of sense . As I said , the fella I bought it from lived in it for 8 years, the " started it up once in a while " would likely turn into 2 or 3 times in the 8 years .
